Google honors iconic graphic designer and Academy Award winning filmmaker

GLOBAL – UNITED STATES, MAY 13, 2013 – Google recently honored the late Saul Bass, known in the industry as creator of some of the most iconic corporate logos, with a dedicated landing page on his birthday. He would have been 93 today.

The doodle was created by Google animator and designer Matthew Cruickshank, who says: "I’ve always been interested in the work of Saul Bass and was delighted to get the opportunity to celebrate his birthday on the Google homepage. From the outset I wanted to celebrate a number of his film credits in succinct succession, as well as a nod in the direction of his poster work."

As a designer, Bass has been credited for some of corporate America’s most iconic logos including the Bell System in 1969, AT&T’s globe logo in 1983, the Contintenal Airlines in 1968 and the United Airlines in 1974.

Also a renowned filmmaker, Bass has worked with some of Hollywood’s biggest names including Alfred Hitchcock, Otto Preminger, Billy Wilder, Stanley Kubrick and Martin Scorsese. His most famous works in film include designing  title sequences for classic films as The Man with the Golden Arm (1955), North by Northwest (1959), and Psycho (1960); a number of movie posters and for storyboarding the famous shower-murder scene in Hitchcock’s Psycho.

Bass died in Los Angeles on April 25, 1996.
