Film director Jerrold Tarog to hold webinar on film and history with Gateway Gallery

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — In time for the Philippine Film Industry Month this September, art space Gateway Gallery‘s KulturaSerye will bring to light discussions on how films become powerful agents of history education.

On September 17, multi-awarded film director Jerrold Tarog will share and discuss the process of conceptualizing and shooting Heneral Luna and Goyo, two historical films that captured the hearts and imagination of Filipinos.

In light of recent issues in history films being crafted as tools for distortion and propaganda, the KulturaSerye talk becomes even more timely and relevant. In the talk “Thoughts on Making Historical Films,” Jerrold will share his thoughts on the balancing act of historical accuracy, creative license, and personal biases. John Carlo Santos, history instructor at UP Los Banos, is set to moderate the talk.
