Lakihan Mo Logo Nights poster: Sugar adds spice

THE PHILIPPINES, FEBRUARY 29, 2012: It’s literally sweet eighteen for Lakihan Mo Logo Nights’ second anniversary, with a special creative (and yes, sweet) treatment through one of its promotional posters.

TequilaManila’s John Ed De Vera got a text from founder Herbert Hernandez, asking if De Vera was free to do a poster for the Lakihan Mo Logo’s second anniversary and 18th gig night. “I felt it was too soon since I just finished doing the poster for LMLN 15,” said De Vera. The Lakihan Mo Logo 15 poster is entirely made up of strings and snagged a Silver Araw at the recently concluded Philippine Advertising Congress.

De Vera gave in eventually since it was for a special event. “There was no brief because he (Hernandez) gives the art directors free reign on on how to express their creativity.” This time, the material he used was sugar, spelling out the words “Lakihan Mo Logo”, with ants feasting on the condiment. “They’re real ants,” shared De Vera of the experience. “The hardest part was searching for ants. I saw a spot outside the office and posted it on the wall. The ants crawled onto the poster overnight and I took the photos the next day.”

The video used the same poster – and ants. “I was able to borrow a micro lens from a friend. I had a hard time with the angle shots because the ants were moving. I was also careful about ‘disturbing’ the ants because then I’d have to wait for them to come back to the poster,” continued De Vera. Then he smiled, “Good thing it didn’t rain.”

The poster and video has been shared and liked fairly well on Facebook and De Vera couldn’t be happier. “It inspires me more to improve on my craft because they appreciate my work. I’m happy and thankful to Herbert for giving me opportunities like this.” De Vera also sees these posters as another venue for art directors to practice their creative freedom.

Single-handedly launched by adman cum rock star Herbert Hernandez of Moonstar 88 and 6CycleMind fame, “Lakihan Mo Logo” (Make the Logo Bigger – a cliched client comment) is a bi-monthly industry get-together and gig night with live music courtesy of agency bands.
