Design Co. Mission recognizes creative solutions

MANILA AUGUST 5, 2013-Design Co.Mission a passion project of Plus63 Design Co., invited creative studios such as Inksurge and Team Manila to present creative but useful design solutions for Education, Health and Culture problems yesterday at Ayala Museum.

Design and retail company Team Manila chose to create a solution for issues in education specifically on the learning status of children who are 6 years old and below and involving the parents to be the instrument of wisdom for their family.

"One of the problems was we pointed out that rural areas sometimes lack teachers and teaching materials so we ended up making a proposal that we targeted objects and materials that are ready and available and can be seen at home,” Alviar added. The educational tools that the studio proposed were banig (hand-woven mat), bayong (a coarse sack of woven strips), used boxes, cans and sacks. Creative director Jowee Alviar of Team Manila said that these things could be used for learning by painting it with letters and numbers.

In the Health sector, people who need blood are having difficulties in asking for blood donors. Plus 63 presented a proposal to respond to the problem. By using social network site Facebook, they created an application to encourage people to donate blood. The application is called "Kindred" which was named by the team based on the color of blood and to encourage people to donate blood. Dan Matutina, co-founder of Plus 63 and Design Co.Mission believes that Facebook is the easiest way to connect with friends socially and it can be an instrument in times of help. “We had a brainstorming, it was something that always came up when we were looking at our Facebook wall. We saw people posting a lot of things on Facebook about needing blood for their friends or  family”, Matutina explained.

Inksurge noticed a lot of unpleasant areas in the National Museum of the Philippines, it is now gloomy, dark and the directions are complicated. To get more tourists and Filipinos to visit the landmark, the studios thought of improving the facilities of the museum. The staff should cooperate with each other, a cleaner nameplate FOR each painting should be imposed, floor plans should be improved and more light along the hallways. "It’s all about making a design that unifies the staff, and also the artworks displayed because as of now, the museum itself has a mixed bland thing of some sorts so we wanted it uniformed and the National Museum to be united not just in terms of design but also in terms of managing and shows", said Rex Advincula, co-founder of Inksurge.

Design Co.Mission wants to inspire designers to bring out their news designs and connect with fellow designers who produce exciting work, and get government onboard to launch these solutions.

The event that was sponsored by Starbucks , which also has a foundation and community grants that encourages projects for the community.

“The main point of the event is to make connections specifically with the government leaders and innovators out there. Even if the ideas would not push through, they would also know. It’s a commission, it’s collaboration, it’s to connect with the perspective agencies and leaders", shared Bernice De Leon, Founding Partner of Plus 63 and Design Co.Mission.
