New York-based Filipino creatives open Ayala Museum DesignTalks 2011

PHILIPPINES, FEBRUARY 2, 2011 – The Ayala Museum DesignTalks lecture series, launched in 2010, brings two internationally acclaimed New York-based designers as its speakers for the opening leg of the lecture series this year.

Lucille Tenazas, graphic designer and incumbent Henry Wolf Professor in Design and Technology at Parsons The New School for Design in New York, will share her experiences and philosophy as a designer and educator on February 9. Set designer and the recipient of many prestigious accolades Loy Arcenas will then grace the stage on February 11. Both lectures will take place at 4:30, Ayala Museum Ground Floor Lobby.

Lucille Tenazas’ characteristic, experimental approach to typography and communications design explores the complex relation of meaning, form and content. As principal of her studio, Tenazas Design, she works on design projects for cultural institutions. She earned her Masters degree in Fine Arts at Cranbrook Academy of Art. In 2002, she was awarded the Smithsonian Copper-Hewitt National Award in Communications Design and was the National President of the American Institute of Graphic Design (AIGA) from 1996-98.

Loy Arcenas has designed sets for theater production companies such as Steppenwolf Productions in Chicago, Goodman Productions in Minnesota, as well as for the off-Broadway and national tours of the famed The Vagina Monologues. For his design work, he has received Drama Desk nominations, L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award, Jeff Award, Bay Area Critics Circle Awards, and the Obie Award for sustained excellence of set design.

These events are presented by Ayala Museum, Creative Industries Initiative and the Manila Design Week.
