MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Visa has officially launched contactless payments at all MRT-3 stations, offering over 350,000 daily passengers a faster, more secure and cashless way to pay for their fares.
Effective immediately, commuters can tap their Visa credit, debit or prepaid card or any Visa-enabled mobile device directly at the MRT-3 turnstiles. This initiative forms part of Visa’s broader efforts to support open-loop transit systems across the Philippines, in collaboration with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and mobile wallet leader GCash.

“We’re proud to bring Visa contactless payments to MRT-3 and help modernize everyday commuting for millions of Filipinos. This marks a significant step in building a more connected, cashless future for public transport in the Philippines. Through our partnership with the Department of Transportation and GCash, we’re enabling faster, safer, and more seamless journeys for commuters across Metro Manila.” said Jeff Navarro, Country Manager, Visa Philippines.
The newly implemented open-loop system is designed to elevate the commuting experience by minimizing queues and reducing reliance on physical cash or proprietary fare cards. This shift not only aligns with global best practices in transit but also responds to the growing demand for efficient and user-friendly payment methods in the country’s public transportation sector.
