Looks like the Apple and Google battle has gone into full gear as Apple launched its iAD software, a built-in advertising system, meant to be used by the developers who have created the more than 185,000 applications in Apple’s App Store. This will allow developers to create complex interactive advertising aps for the iPhone, iPod Touch and the recently launched iPad. Developers get 60% of the revenue from the ads that will run in their programs
While Google has made tons of money by running ads on their search results, Steve Jobs said that they are focusing on the mobile market, which rarely uses search on their mobile phones, but are more glued to the different apps. He assures that the ads will not get in the way of the use of the apps and will be interactive and interesting. He also credits longtime agency TBWA as instrumental in helping them navigate through this unfamiliar terrain
Unfortunately (or fortunately) iAd will only run on Apple products for the meantime, and have no visible plans yet on running it on other mobile phones
