Beacon Communications tops Intercontinental Advertising CUP

GLOBAL – ISTANBUL, TURKEY, MARCH 14, 2011 – Japanese agency Beacon Communications K.K. was awarded the prestigious 2010 GRAND CUP at a gala awards ceremony in Istanbul, Turkey on March 12, for its Yubari City Project 2009. The campaign won also the Grande Lotus Roots at ADFEST 2010.
 
 

 
Established in 2007, The Intercontinental Advertising CUP is given to a selected from the winners of regional advertising festivals ADFEST, FIAP and Golden Drum, with ADC*E, Art Director’s Club of Europe as a participating member. The jury selected from the 145 awardees, granting 27 small CUPs and one Grand CUP. 10 CUPs went to works entered through ADFEST, 8 to works entered through ADC*E, 6 to works entered through FIAP and 3 to works entered through Golden Drum. 
 
“Agencies in the Asia Pacific won the highest number of CUP trophies of any regional festival again this year, which proves that the richness of local Asian culture significantly enhances the quality and success of our advertising,” says Jimmy Lam, President of ADFEST.
 
This week at ADFEST, Ravi Deshpande will present a Seminar titled ‘THE CUP 2010: Celebrating Genius Loci’ showcasing the winning works from other regions. The Seminar takes place on Thursday  March 17, 4.30pm. Ravi is Chairman & Chief Creative Officer at Contract Advertising in Mumbai, and was one of 11 executives who judged THE CUP 2010 .
 
ADFEST will also invite the following agencies on stage to be presented with their CUP trophies: Beacon Communications K.K., Tokyo (2 CUP Trophies + 1 GRAND CUP), Dentsu Inc, Tokyo: (4 CUP trophies), Contract Advertising, Mumbai: (1 CUP trophy), Leo Burnett / Arc Worldwide, Singapore: (1 CUP trophy), RMG (JWT Group), Mumbai (1 CUP trophy), Taproot India: (1 CUP trophy).
 
This is the second year a work from ADFEST has won the GRAND CUP. Last year, GT Inc Japan won for its ‘Love Distance’ campaign for Sagami Original Condom.
