Thursday, August 10, at the 13th Cinemalaya Film Festival presents six full-lengths and one set of short features in the Main Competition, two Digital Classics featured films, two indie films for Indie Nation, a tribute to actress Lolita Rodriguez, two award-winning Asian films, a Best of Festivals entry, and a Retrospective on last year’s winning film.
The competition continues to heat up in the full-length category with the screening of six entries today.
Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo (Main Theater) offers “Ang Pamilyang Hindi Lumuluha (The Family That Doesn’t Weep)” by Mes de Guzman at 10a.m.; “Nabubulok (The Decaying)” by Sonny Calvento at 12:45p.m.; “Sa Gabing Nanahimik Ang Mga Kuliglig (Clouds of Plague)” by Iar Arondaing at 3:30p.m.; and “Baconaua” by Joseph Israel Laban at 9p.m.
“Respeto” by Alberto Monteras II will be screened at 12:45p.m. at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo; while “Ang Guro Kong Di Marunong Magbasa (My Teacher Who Doesn’t Know How To Read)” will be shown at 6:15p.m., at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute.
Shorts B, including “Juana And The Sacred Shores” by Antonne Santiago, “Maria” by Jaime Habac Jr., “Nakaw” by Arvin Belarmino and Noel Escondo; “Bawod (Bent)” by TM Malones, “Nakauwi Na (Home)” by Marvin Cabangunay and Jaynus Olaivar, will be screened at 6:15p.m. at the Main Theater.
Visions of Asia features “The Painter’s View” by Kim Hee-chul at 6:15p.m. at the Little Theater, and “Poolsideman” by Hirobumi Watanabe at 3:30p.m. at Tanghalang Huseng Batute. The Japanese film is free to the public.
Catch classic Filipino films in Digital Classics, featuring “Kakaba-kaba Ka Ba?” by Mike de Leon and “Hihintayin Kita Sa Langit” by Carlos Siguion-Reyna. The former will be shown at 3:30p.m. at the Little Theater, while the latter will be at 12:45p.m. at the Studio Theater.
Cinemalaya pays tribute to actress Lolita Rodriguez with the screening of her film “Lucia” at 3:30p.m. at Tanghalang Manuel Conde. Directed by Mel Chionglo, the film was shot in the Philippines in 1992, the last time the legendary actress set foot in her home country.
Indie Nation offers “Die Beautiful” by Jun Robles Lana at 9p.m. at the Little Theater, and “Mrs” by Adolfo Alix, Jr. at 9p.m. at Tanghalang Manuel Conde.
Revisit last year’s winning entry “Pamilya Ordinaryo” by Eduardo Roy Jr. at 6:15p.m. at Tanghalang Manuel Conde. Don’t miss the Best of Festivals featured film, CinemaOne Originals’ “2 Cool 2 Be Forgotten” by Petersen Vargas at 9p.m. at the Tanghalang Huseng Batute.
