McCann and Coca-Cola’s “The OFW Project” hits #1 on the weekly Global Ads Chart

THE PHILIPPINES, DECEMBER 12, 2011: Coca-Cola’s tear-jerking "The OFW Project" by McCann Worldgroup Philippines is the reigning number one on the weekly Campaign Viral Video Chart, which tracks the Global Ads Chart, or the shares of branded content within Unruly Media’s Viral Video Chart. The Coca-Cola video, uploaded on December 1, received 459,093 shares in the last seven days, pulling it ahead of the previous week’s chart topper, "It’s Time" from Australia, which dropped to number three but still reigns in the 30-day chart.

"The OFW Project" has 665,259 shares so far on Facebook, Twitter and blogs combined, making it one of the most shared ads of the year worldwide. The 2011 Top 20, released last week, which includes Leo Burnett Manila’s "BF/GF" for McDonald’s Philippines in the 15th spot, only counts shares until November 21, 2011. As of this week, "BF/GF" has fallen off the last 365 days ranking, with "The OFW Project" in 15th place.

With a large online population who are heavy users of social networking sites, expect more viral videos from the Philippines. Previous viral hits include the Pepsi Pinas "Action/Sa Akin ang Pinas" spot by BBDO Guerrero, which also landed the Viral Video Chart, and last year’s Cebu Pacific dancing flight attendants.
