Industry mourns young talent Mags Martin

MANILA, AUGUST 30, 2013 – The Philippine advertising industry has lost a young talent, Magnolia ‘Mags’ Martin, who passed away Monday August 26 in an accident in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.

Martin and six others in the passenger van perished in the collision with the bus.

In her nearly 10 years in the industry, Martin had worked mainly in events and activation with Bates 141 Manila, OgilvyAction, EON Inc and MRM Manila before leaving two months ago. She was with Hot Air Balloon as business director for Altitude, the group’s digital-driven events and activation unit, at the time of her passing.

Martin had been in Palawan for a shoot and was due to return to Manila when the accident occurred.

Martin’s passing has elicited an outpouring of tributes from the industry. Donald Lim, MRM Manila’s managing director during Martin’s year-plus tenure at the agency prior to his departure for ABS-CBN earlier in the year, said, “We were deeply saddened when we heard of the news of Mag’s passing. She was our bright light during her stay in MRM, and would bring so much warmth and happiness to her job, amidst the pressure of being a digital accounts person. She was as excellent and as passionate towards her job, in as much as she excelled in her number one love: SURFING. So, to Mags, enjoy the heavenly waves up there!”

Mike Aguilar, the managing director of Altitude, said: “I’ve known Mags for almost 10 years; she was then a client who eventually became a colleague. Having said that, I can tell everyone that Mags was not just a client or a colleague–she was indeed a very good friend.

For us friends of Mags, we will always remember her as someone who is free spirited and certainly the life of the party. She was always in high spirits and was fun and easy to get along with. Mags was unselfish, generous, optimistic, full of wit and very passionate at what she does. I can say that she was one of the best that I’ve worked with in the industry.”

Martin’s wake will be held today and tomorrow at the Marian Memorial Chapel followed by her funeral on September 1 at the Loyola Memorial Park.
