CEBU CITY – Who says all of the top designers in the Philippines are only found in Manila? Founded in 2009, design studio Happy Garaje proves that there are other places to turn to in the country when looking for excellence in graphic design and illustration.

Happy Garaje founders Johanna Velasco and Mark Deutsch, together with associate artist Karina Cuizon, have already seen several of their projects recognized globally. These include a Gold Award for Johanna from the Society of Illustrators in Los Angeles in 2010, as well as Certificates of Merit by the same organization in 2009, 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015. Happy Garaje was part of the 200 Best Illustrators Worldwide by advertising index Luerzer’s Archive for the years 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012.

From their own website, Happy Garaje “is inspired by everyday people, heroes, monsters, by the things that all of us hope for and the things that we fear. Dreams, joys, madness, and the things that we love.”

On January 12-14, from 11:00am to 8:00pm, Happy Garaje will be participants at Crisscrossings: Creative Convergence 2018 in Cebu City. The three-day event will feature creative talks and workshops, art installations, a Cebu music congress, an artist showcase gig, a creators’ market, and more. As the creative communities of Cebu come together, Happy Garaje will be bringing their much-loved art, prints, and ceramics to the Creators Market.
