BBDO NY’s Bruce joins RSA as fulltime director

What’s with TV commercial directing?  Creativity Online reports the departure of Bill Bruce from BBDO NY.  On April 3, Bruce, BBDO NY’s Chairman and CCO, starts his new career as director with the NY office of RSA, Ridley Scott and Tony Scott’s advertising company.

Having made his intentions six months ago, Bruce has spent the last dozen years thinking of switching to directing.  As of presstime, BBDO NY has “no plans to fill Bruce’s vacated post,” the report states.  The agency has beefed up with four ECDs, with the region’s own Ronald Ng included.  Ng was behind the multi-awarded Jeep campaigns of 2008 to 2009.

Bruce is most well-known for the successful branding of Mountain Dew.   With “Do the Dew”, Bruce’s brainchild was published in the Harvard Business Review.   He also created the Diet Pepsi ads featuring Ray Charles.

With major clients, Bruce’s work includes campaigns for HBO, FedEx and GE, to mention a few.

Asked about his prospective projects, Bruce replied, “I am most excited about telling stories and creating unique characters that help define and communicate a brand idea in the most thought-provoking, emotionally relevant way possible. Beyond that, I have written and produced in every conceivable genre as an agency creative and I hope to do the same as a director,” the report adds.

The directing bug has not spared the Philippines’s own, BBDO Guerrero/Proximity Inc. ECD, Joel Limchoc.  Limchoc has also departed the agency to go into directing.
