ICON Manila 2017: Interviews with Armand Serrano, Tony Bancroft, Goro Fujita, Even Amundsen, and Jana Schirmer

Now on its fourth year, ICON Manila 2017 just upped the level of world-renowned design and animation names invited to speak at the De La Salle – College of Saint Benilde last June 30 to July 1, 2017.

The conference was headlined by Tony Bancroft, co-director of Disney’s ‘Mulan’ animated film and director of upcoming independent animated feature film, ‘Animal Crackers’. He is further known for working on ‘Cogsworth’ in ‘Beauty and the Beast’, ‘Iago’ in ‘Aladdin,’ and ‘Kronk’ in ‘The Emperor’s New Groove’. He was joined by fellow Disney artist Armand Serrano, known for his work on Disney films Mulan, Tarzan, Brother Bear, Lilo & Stitch, Big Hero 6, Zootopia as well as Surf’s Up, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and Hotel Transylvania for Sony Pictures Animation. The conference further featured other world-class artists including Goro Fujita, a pioneer in the VR field and currently an Art Director at Oculus Story Studio where he worked on the Emmy award-winning VR experience ‘Henry’, Norweigian concept artist Even Amundsen. self-taught concept artist and illustrator Jana Schemer who has worked with Karakter/Guerilla Games, WB Games, Sony, Marvel Comics, and Riot Games. Comic book young artist Pauline Bautista, known as @punziella on the digital space, also went to demo a live illustration. 

ICON Manila 2017 was a 2-day event, with Tony Bancroft, Armand Serrano, and Goro Fujita staging a workshop along with a live illustration demo by Pauline Bautista on the first day and a conference featuring all speakers on the second day.
