Barefoot Theatre Collaborative adapts Bar Boys into a musical

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Barefoot Theatre Collaborative, the company that staged the critically acclaimed hits Mula Sa Buwan, Pride Plays, and The Last Five Years, will be premiering another original Filipino musical, Bar Boys: A New Musical.

A musical stage adaptation of the well-loved 2017 Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino film by Kip F. Oebanda, BAR BOYS: A NEW MUSICAL follows the life of four friends and their journey to become defenders of justice in the Philippines.

Book and lyrics are by Pat Valera, who will direct alongside Mikko Angeles. Meanwhile, all songs are composed by Myke Salomon, who will be debuting his original music. Myke will also serve as the musical director.

Joining the creative team are Jomelle Era for choreography, Ohm David for set design, Meliton Roxas Jr. for lighting design, Tata Tuviera for costume design, Bene Manaois for video design, Julia Pacificador for property design, and D Cortezano for technical direction.

Leading the cast as the titular bar boys are Alex Diaz as CHRIS, Benedix Ramos as ERIK, Jerom Canlas as TORRAN, and Omar Uddin as JOSH.

Joining them are Sheila Francisco as Justice Hernandez, Juliene Mendoza as “Paping,” Nor Domingo as Atty. Maurice Carlson, Topper Fabregas as Atty. Victor Cruz, Gimbey dela Cruz as “Boss Mama” and other roles, Kakki Teodoro as Female Professor and other roles, and Carlon Matabato as Male Professor and other roles.

Completing the cast are Diego Aranda, Joshua Ade Valenzona, Edrei Tan, Jannah Baniasia, Anne Cortez, Uzziel Delamide, and Meg Ruiz.

Bar Boys: A New Musical will be staged for three weeks only from May 03 to 19 at the Power Mac Center Spotlight Blackbox Theater, Circuit Makati. Tickets may be purchased through Ticket2Me and show buyers starting February 24, 12 noon. There will only be over 250 tickets available per show. Bar Boys: A New Musical is Barefoot Theatre Collaborative’s first production for its 2024 season.
