Two Filipinos take honors at ASEAN tilts

PHILIPPINES, DECEMBER 2010 – It was Juan’s time in the two ASEAN competitions held this year, namely the ASEAN-Korean Multimedia Competition  and the China-ASEAN Creativity Competition.
 
Photographer Nash Anggahan of the Polytechnic University of the Philippines won the Gold Prize for Digital Media Arts at the ASEAN-Korean Multimedia Competition held last December 17, 2010 at the Gallery Jinsun in Seoul. 
 
Out of over 600 entries, his winning entry, "Water", is a 40-second single channel video featuring the continuous efforts of various groups in the Philippines to restore  the beauty of Pasig River. this year’s theme was "ASEAN-Korean Cities: Urban Culture and Green Life" with the aim to provide a channel of exchanges and to enhance mutual understanding between the young generation of ASEAN and Korea through new media. 
 
Other winners of the video category include Janice Chandra of Indonesia for 2nd place and Nazar Syaqif bin Nazzi of Malaysia for 3rd place.

Jophel Botero Ybiosa, also of Polytechnic University of the Philippines, bagged the Excellent Prize for his photographic works characterizing unique Philippine culture and tradition in the 4th China-ASEAN Youth Artwork Creativity Competition. His entries were declared Excellent out of 1, 267 artworks and after two rounds of evaluation by Chinese and foreign experts. This competition, which aims to promote and deepen the political, cultural, and economic exhanges and cooperation between China and ASEAN countries, was held in National Museum of in October.
 
Ybiosa also received the notable Ani ng Dangal Award from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCAA) last February for winning the Grand Prize in 1st ASEAN-Korean Multimedia held in Seoul, South Korea. Ybiosa was also one of the Filipino representatives during the 2010 ASEAN Youth Camp in Hanoi, Vietnam and Film Expo Asia in Bangkok, Thailand.
