PHILIPPINES, SEPTEMBER 30, 2010 – In commemoration of the first death anniversary last month of Corazon C. Aquino, the country’s most beloved President, Y&R Philippines partnered with the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation to launch the Cory “Heart” design by Sandy and Badong Abesamis.
The piece looks like the Philippine map, but upon closer inspection, the face of the revered leader emerges in the center. The idea was that in death, the late President Aquino brought the whole nation together, as though she were the heart of the country. In a sense, she was: “Corazon” is Spanish for “heart.”

The design spread online
The design was adopted in the commemorative materials of the event, which included watches, fans and shirts. Bench also came up with shirts showcasing the design. It was featured by ABS-CBN programs “TV Patrol” and “Bandila”, GMA’s “Unang Hirit” and “Saksi,”, and ANC’s news programs. It also merited the attention of abs-cbnnews.com, and was a hit on social media, as many put it up as their Facebook profile picture during the time of the former President’s death anniversary.
