THE PHILIPPINES, FEBRUARY 15, 2012: Local network provider Globe Telecommunications closed 2011 with more than 30 million network subscribers, which marks a 13% from their previous record of 26.47 million.
According to an official statement from the company, Globe kept its dominance in the postpaid market, largely due to customizable plans and the launch of Apple iPhone 4S in December 2011, which gave way to nearly 1.5 million postpaid subscribers. In addition, the quality of new accounts has also improved, with about 21% of subscribers signing up for plans with P999 monthly service fees and above. Officials said that Globe postpaid services offer the widest variety of plans, which now includes a phone warranty for newly acquired plans.
On the other hand, Globe prepaid also received a 50% boost from their across-networks and combined text-call-internet promotions, and a new advertising campaign focusing on the aspirations of the Filipino youth. Globe’s TM (Touch Mobile) brand also benefited from “combo” services, as it posted gross acquisitions of 11.2 million, an increase of 7% from 2010. TM subscribers peaked at 13.1 million in 2011, a 13% increase from the previous year.
