In 2017, Dentsu Jayme Syfu and Greenpeace Philippines transformed a public beach into the site of an environmental reckoning with “Dead Whale,” a haunting 50-foot art installation constructed entirely from discarded plastic.
Mimicking the tragic image of a whale dying from plastic ingestion, the installation confronted viewers with the consequences of ocean pollution without relying on shock footage or a real animal.
More than a striking visual statement, the project galvanized public conversation around single-use plastics, contributing to broader regional momentum on marine conservation while demonstrating how creativity can move beyond awareness to inspire collective action.
Its powerful blend of art, activism, and environmental advocacy earned widespread international recognition, cementing “Dead Whale” as one of the Philippines’ most celebrated purpose-driven campaigns.
