Ogilvy and Star Plus’s film re-imagines the Indian woman and her role in society

by CJ Peradilla

MUMBAI – Indian television channel Star Plus collaborates with Ogilvy Mumbai in launching its latest film, giving tribute to father-daughter relationships that have since fostered change in society.

The film stars Aamir Khan as Gurdeep Singh, a small-town shop owner. While he receives praise from a customer who notices the flourishing business, Gurdeep attributes the business’s success to his children’s efforts on taking their operations online.

As it is customary in Indian culture to associate men with success, the customer feels surprised, seeing two young girls taking charge of online order deliveries, instead. And yet, the customer feels even more shocked walking out of the shop and finding the signboard changed.

The film ends with the line, “Kaamyabi na ladka dekhti hai na ladki. Kaamyabi sirf soch dekhti hai.” (Progress does not distinguish between girls and boys, how we think is what matters).

Sumanto Chattopadhyay, Executive Creative Director of Ogilvy, South Asia, notes that the film highlights the positivity in progressive thinking. “It’s a tribute to the women who succeed and to the men whose progressive thinking makes them stand by, and not in the way of, women realizing their potential,” Chattopadhyay adds.
