Creative director Peachy Bretaña and Juana Change steer creative community to ‘Million People March’ against pork barrel

The ‘Million People March’, which started as an online campaign, came into being when news on the alleged misuse of the funds broke out. According to the latest report from the Commission on Audit (COA),  billions of taxpayer’s money allotted to public officials were given to ”bogus” non-government organizations.

The civil rally started at 9:00 a.m. as agreed by majority of the participants. Simultaneous activities from student groups, religious groups, civic groups and a bikers club were held on Rizal Park grounds. Different banners expressing sentiments about the pork barrel issue flew high. An hourly group – chant "Makibaka! Wag magbaboy!" – united the crowd.

An estimate of 100,000 Filipinos signed the petition to scrap the pork barrel.

Mae Paner, an advocate of Juana Change movement, told adobo: "The people got out of their comfort zone to show indignation.  We must keep on ‘til pork is genuinely abolished."

"This isn’t the end. This is just the start. We need to be vigilant from here onwards. And other budding citizen leaders can help take on the next steps," said creative director Peachy Bretaña.

"I am glad there are lots of people in advertising who came. Hopefully, this continues. We must conquer what we want to change," added Paner.

Even outside today’s movement, many from the advertising industry have expressed their sentiments against the issue. One of the logos proliferating on social networks and printed in shirts was designed by Publicis JimenezBasic art director RJ Ferrer.

"I just want to do something in my own way. i wanted to give the movement a face, an image that unifies or reflects the sentiments of the people about the issue," remarked Ferrer.
