OMG Malaysia credits AOY double victory to client-focused, future-forward initiatives

OMG Malaysia CEO Andreas Vogiatzakis talks to adobo magazine about OMD and PHD’s AOY Gold wins

ASIA-PACIFIC – MALAYSIA, JANUARY 21, 2013 – OMD and PHD Malaysia, both under the Omnicom Media Group, each walked away with a gold in the Media Agency of the Year at the Campaign Agency of the Year 2012 Awards.

Winning two Gold awards, according to OMG Malaysia CEO Andreas Vogiatzakis, was a "historic and unprecedented win", breaking the gold-silver-bronze norm. OMD and PHD are the first to bring home the Gold medal in Malaysia.

"Not only this is the highest recognition OMD and PHD Malaysia could receive locally and regionally, but also a clear testament for the substantial work that both agencies do: insightful, inspiring, focused, different & better," Vogiatzakis added.

OMD credits its win to being a "Future Forward" communications agency, referring to its new positioning which saw the launch of new strategic tools, services and capabilities that propelled OMD to win new businesses, retain its people, retain its current clients, and become the first point of reference for analysis and industry commentary.

OMD launched different initiatives throughout 2012 to keep its stakeholders engaged, informed and future-ready. A series of events called OMG Predicts, for example, aimed to give a better understanding of what lies ahead, how to be better prepared and help clients future-proof their strategies.
"The Future Forward strategy formed the nucleus for everything every OMD did and that’s how it maintained its leadership status within the industry, pushing forth with new initiatives, being innovate and move from success to significance," said Vogiatzakis.

PHD stayed true to being the "Challenger" brand in the market, as it was relentless in pursuing better ways for its people and clients. PHD won substantial new businesses in a stagnant environment, and continuously managed to develop and implement state of the art tools and solutions and demonstrated thought leadership in the industry. From the "Beyond The Horizon" book launch to a series of digital collaborations through the Digital Now! initiative for its clients and all stakeholders, PHD leveraged all the resources of the Omnicom Media Group in Malaysia.

Vogiatzakis commented: "As a challenger brand it is critical for PHD to stay ahead of the curve in terms of always innovating and staying relevant for the future. The PHD new business wins in 2012 were a testament of its commitment to go beyond the horizon through the development of state of the art tools to equip its people for the future.  The PHD team was restructured to be future-ready and able to provide solutions that translate to tangible achievements for its clients’ campaign objectives."

Campaign Asia-Pacific‘s Agency of the Year Awards is the most prestigious awards in the region, the only agency performance awards with results tabulated by PricewaterhouseCoopers for the last nine years. On its 19th year in 2012, Campaign AOY started to recognize excellence in local markets through the launch of five separate competitions for Australia/New Zealand, Greater China, South Asia, Japan/Korea and Southeast Asia.
