The Cultural Center of the Philippines boasts the national flag’s colors in commemoration of Independence Day

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Symbolic visuals in blue, yellow, and red shades will illuminate the Main Building Facade of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) from May 28 to June 13 (except Mondays), from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm, to celebrate the National Flag Day and the 125th Proclamation of Philippine Independence.

On May 28, 1898, the Philippine revolutionary army unfurled the National Flag for the first time, after they defeated the Spanish forces in the Battle of Alapan in Imus, 15. Fifteen days after the unfurling, the same flag was hoisted in Kawit, Cavite when the Philippine forces, led by Emilio Aguinaldo, declared the Philippine Independence.

This year, the country celebrates the 125th anniversary of the Declaration of the Philippine Independence, with the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan.”
