Yahoo launches new ad campaign (and takes a potshot at Google too)

So it seems that Yahoo is finally taking an advertising stand against Google, as their latest $75-$85 million dollar ad campaign positions Yahoo as the single destination for everything online. As their slogan says “Your favorite stuff all in one place. Make Yahoo your home page.”
 
The ad starts out with an image of a site that obviously looks like a Google search box and with the statement that “Nothing looks back at you. You come to this place so you can leave.”
 
Along with the ad campaign, Yahoo is also updating its web portal by adding other online and social networking services like Facebook.
The question remains if this latest move will actually convince users to leave Google and switch to Yahoo. When it comes to search, Google is miles away from any of its competition and pundits predict that no one will come close to them in the next few years.
 
But does Yahoo have a chance of making a dent in its web portal services with its "fresh" positioning? Or is this a futile and expensive campaign that smells a little bit desperate?
