UnionBank techs Up Iloilo with UPAY

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Planting the seeds of “Teching Up” Iloilo City, UnionBank has partnered with the Iloilo Local Government to successfully mount the “Enterprise Growth through Digital Transformation” summit for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) at the Iloilo Convention Center last April.

In a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signing ceremony held at city Mayor Jerry Treñas’ office in Iloilo City, a partnership between the city and the tech-savvy bank was forged. In attendance were UnionBank President and CEO Edwin Bautista, UnionBank EVP and Head of Retail Banking Mary Joyce Gonzalez, UnionBank AVP and Visayas Region Sales Director Romeo Gabayeron Jr., UnionBank Corporate Solutions Manager Fiona Therese Baldeo, and other key Iloilo city officials.

“Excited to announce our partnership with UnionBank and its President and CEO Edwin Bautista, a proud Ilonggo, to bring digital solutions to our city hall transactions,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas. “With This agreement, we’re adding an extra payment option for business permits and licensing, making it more convenient for everyone. Thank you to UnionBank for supporting our city’s progress towards a more accessible and efficient government.”

Under the partnership, UnionBank will be able to support the city’s roadmap to becoming a smart city where transactions for all businesses and constituents will be transparent and digitized. Through UnionBank’s proprietary payments solution that brings together a wide array of payment methods into a single integrated platform called UPAY, digital transactions will be enabled for a number of the city’s services, including payment of taxes and other fees and charges.

Mayor Jerry Treñas proudly bannered the agreement as “Partnering with UnionBank for Faster and More Accessible Transactions” during the signing ceremony on his official social media page as it marked the 8th city to benefit from UnionBank’s UPAY solution.

UnionBank’s partnership with the City of Iloilo is the latest of its many initiatives to digitize government units and agencies in line with the Bank’s “Tech-Up Pilipinas” advocacy. Other government entities who have benefitted from leveraging on UnionBank’s digital solutions include Quezon City, the Bureau of Internal Revenue, and the Social Security System.
