What if a telco told its brand story through a show? DITO Originals bets on mobile-first drama

What if branded storytelling didn’t always have to feel like a traditional ad?

That’s part of the thinking behind DITO Originals, a new slate of short-form branded dramas from DITO Telecommunity created specifically for the screen that’s probably already in your hand.

The stories are vertical, bite-sized, and designed for mobile viewing. And instead of giving audiences everything at once, DITO is bringing back something increasingly rare in the age of endless scrolling: having to wait to find out what happens next. Every Tuesday at 7 p.m., the story continues.

For DITO, the format takes a different approach to earning attention. Rather than relying on a traditional product-led narrative, DITO Originals uses entertainment as its creative format, building brand relevance and affinity by giving audiences something they would choose to watch.

“People today have more choices than ever for what deserves their attention, and that challenges brands to think differently about how we connect with them,” DITO Telecommunity Chief Commercial Officer Atty. Adel Tamano said.

“With DITO Originals, we’re using storytelling as a way to create a more engaging brand experience—one that people can enjoy, relate to, and hopefully look forward to.”

It’s an old pleasure in a very new format.

Filipinos have always loved stories that keep us hanging. From radio dramas and teleseryes to whatever series currently has the group chat arguing, half the fun is wondering what happens next.

DITO Originals takes that familiar Filipino appetite for serialized storytelling and reimagines it for the screen people carry everywhere.

The difference is that this particular drama comes from a telco. And that creates an interesting creative challenge: how do you make branded content without asking the story to behave like a traditional commercial?

Rather than turning every scene into a product demonstration, DITO Originals allows the brand to participate through the overall experience. Entertainment becomes the format through which DITO can engage mobile-first audiences, while the purpose remains distinctly brand-led.

That approach also reflects a broader reality about connectivity today. Phones aren’t simply where people communicate. They’re where they watch, react, share, discover, create, send screenshots, join conversations, and convince friends to start watching whatever they’re currently obsessed with.

“At DITO, we’re fortunate to have a young, fresh and adventurous team that isn’t afraid to push boundaries,” said DITO Telecommunity Deputy Chief Revenue Officer Miriam Choa.

“DITO Originals reflects that spirit—bringing our brand into the platforms and formats where today’s audiences are spending their time.”

In that sense, DITO Originals flips a familiar piece of telco communication. Instead of only telling people what they can do with their data, DITO is giving them something worth using it for.

DITO Originals is part of a broader shift in how the brand approaches connectivity: not simply as a utility, but as an enabler of the things people already care about—from entertainment and gaming to music, creators, and communities.

For DITO Originals, however, the test is much simpler. Audiences have no shortage of things to watch. Another video is always one swipe away. No brand, regardless of how familiar, is automatically entitled to attention.

So can branded storytelling earn the same thing every other piece of entertainment is fighting for: the audience’s decision to come back?

When this week’s installment ends, will viewers care what happens next?

And when Tuesday comes around, will they remember there’s more waiting? DITO is betting on yes.
