WPP’s Sorrell to bear Olympic torch

GLOBAL – JULY 2012: WPP’s chief executive officer Sir Martin Sorrell was chosen to be among the  people to carry the Olympic Torch 2012 on Sunday, July 22, five days before the Opening Ceremony for the London Olympic Games.
 
Sorrell, 67, will carry the torch through Redbridge, a neighborhood in Northeast London. Other torchbearer’s includes a teacher, a 12-year old sports star, and a teenager with a malignant brain tumor who launched her own charity to help sick people.
 
Among the previous torchbearers were football superstar David Beckham and Black Eyed Peas’ singer Will.i.am, who made buzz on social media by tweeting his progress during his run by spelling the name of Taunton town wrong.
 
A statement of a spokesman for the International Olympic Committee in Switzerland said that Sorrell has been a long-term friend and adviser of the Olympic movement and has regulary offered advice and counsel.
