Campaign Spotlight: Who let the bags out? Thom Browne and Jordan Blady breathe life into label’s latest handbag collection

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In his first collaboration with American luxury brand Thom Browne, Paris-based director Jordan Blady breathes life into the label’s latest collection with his new commercial, Animal Bags.

Aptly titled “Who Let the Bags Out?”, the one-minute film showcases Thom Browne’s leather bags shaped like animals strolling around the streets of Paris.

Shot on 16mm film to fully capture the city’s winter charm, Blady uses stop motion animation to highlight the personality of the bags. Each one in the shape of a different animal, from pig and rabbit to elephant and giraffe, we follow the tales of these fun and quirky characters exploring the city like true Parisiens.

In an interview with Niccolo Montanari, Blady shares the concept behind the quirky film commercial: “Thom Browne was very keen on making the bags feel as alive as possible. So I did just that: I brought them to life by giving them a personality and a voice. The idea of placing them across Paris and setting up different scenarios was a natural progression. The bags themselves are very beautiful pieces of work so seeing them pose around Paris was going to look good no matter what.”

On Blady’s aim for the commercial, “I wanted to make something simple and fun. Something light-hearted and cute for people to enjoy. The bags had to stand out (which wasn’t hard). I just had to make sure that their strong personalities came across to show that they had minds of their own.”
