Comedy series SLICK skewers Big Oil’s advertising machine

As a summer of record-breaking heat, wildfires and extreme weather has brought the reality of the climate crisis into sharp focus, award-winning comedy web series SLICK is turning its attention to another part of the story: the creative industries helping fossil-fuel companies sell their destruction.

Created by Jessie Bluedorn and Kylie Holloway, SLICK follows the employees of a fictional creative agency servicing oil and gas companies, as they turn increasingly indefensible client requests into “PR gold.” Across five three-to-five-minute episodes, the series satirises the strategists, copywriters, influencers and creatives who help make fossil fuels appear desirable, normal and even compatible with climate action.

SLICK draws on a disturbing irony for its content themes using real-world examples of public engagement campaigns found in Clean Creatives F- List research that attempt to shape public perception of its product using entertainment, gaming and influencers from Shell’s activation in Fortnite and Equinor’s Energy World simulation game, to influencer campaigns promoting gas stations and gas-linked credit cards.

Bluedorn uses experience from her work as Founder of Carmack Productions and The Carmack Collective, a philanthropic fund working to dismantle the fossil fuel industry through movement building and culture change – she was named to the 2025 Grist 50 list and previously worked as a digital media strategist at Digitas. Holloway is a writer and performer whose work has appeared in McSweeney’s, The Cut, and Vox Media’s Polygon.

The series has now been selected as a finalist in the Digital Series category of the 2026 Jackson Wild and Hollywood Climate Summit Awards, recognising its use of comedy and digital storytelling to engage audiences with the climate crisis. The recognition follows an award-winning festival run, including Best Web Series at the New York Shorts International Film Festival, Outstanding Achievement in Writing at NYC Web Fest 2025 and Best Supporting Actress at LA Webfest.

SLICK was born from our horror, as creatives, at the historic and present-day role of the Ad and PR industries in shaping public perceptions that have allowed Big Oil to flourish, despite knowingly destroying our climate. We want to shine a light on these underrepresented villains the best way we know how, through comedy. We hope this funny, digitally native show will reach audiences where they are and help them to rethink Big Oil’s messaging.” said Jessie Bluedorn, Co-Creator and Writer, Slick and Founder of Carmack Collective and Carmack Productions

Rather than focusing on oil executives and lobbyists, SLICK puts the creative professionals at the centre of the story. Its characters are ambitious, insecure, distracted and remarkably skilled at rationalising whatever the client wants, exposing the everyday complicity behind corporate climate messaging.

Clean Creatives and Creatives for Climate are official impact partners for SLICK, connecting the series to their campaigns to end advertising and PR work for fossil-fuel companies. The Clean Creatives campaign has mobilised more than 1,650 agencies worldwide to pledge against future fossil-fuel contracts. Creatives for Climate has mobilised 7,800+ professionals and built the practical infrastructure for climate-aligned practice, from anti-greenwashing tools used across 90 countries to fossil-free pathways for clients.

“SLICK asks the creative industry to confront an uncomfortable truth: fossil-fuel companies depend on creative talent to keep their business socially acceptable – even as the consequences become impossible to ignore. We want more professionals and agencies to walk away, knowing there is a community ready to support them, practical guidance to help them transition and a growing market of climate-aligned clients seeking fossil-free partners.” commented Lucy von Sturmer, Founder and CEO, Creatives for Climate

“Seeing contracts and case studies from the Clean Creatives F-List come to life via Slick is a brilliant way to turn complex data that can be hard to conceptualise into something relatable and engaging. Using comedy to talk about planetary collapse and implicating the ad industry executives working with fossil-fuel companies makes the absurdity of fossil-fuel advertising impossible to unsee.” said Laura Ranzato, Executive Director, Clean Creatives

SLICK was created by Bluedorn, founder of Carmack Productions and The Carmack Collective, and writer and performer Holloway, whose work has appeared in McSweeney’s, The Cut and Polygon.

Carmack Productions will be hosting an in-person during Climate Week NYC on Monday 21 September, 19:30 EST, partnering with Creatives for Climate and Clean Creatives for its release of Slick – an award-winning absurdist workplace comedy web series about the employees at a PR agency making Big Oil look good.
