Seeing the country’s sights on a bike, through McDonald’s Philippines’ Tour de McDo

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – In the past few years the popularity of cycling in many parts of the country has shot up, creating numerous vibrant communities of avid cyclists — using their bikes to navigate towns and cities, organizing recreational and fitness-promoting rides to many scenic spots, and even using biking as a platform to advocate for safer roads.

As early as 2021, McDonald’s Philippines noticed how its restaurants were being used as meet-up spots and stop-overs by cyclists. Recognizing this, the quick service restaurant (QSR) giant installed Bike and Dine facilities in its stores. These cyclist-friendly facilities featured stations for bike repair or e-bike charging, bike racks that also double as dining ledges, and a Drive-Thru that could safely accommodate bikers.

The Bike and Dine features proved highly popular, which served as the company’s motivation to introduce more exciting offerings to the growing communities of cycling enthusiasts and active mobility advocates.

In 2023, McDonald’s Philippines introduced Ride the Arches, a campaign that invites cyclists to come together and pedal from one McDonald’s store to the next, using the iconic Golden Arches as landmarks, guideposts, and pitstops. This innovative campaign is the first of its kind not just across all McDonald’s markets, but within the QSR industry. It also serves as McDonald’s way of championing sustainable active mobility under its Green and Good platform.

Developed together with Leo Manila, Ride the Arches has received accolades both locally and internationally, including honors from the New York Festival, Spikes Asia, Asia Pacific Tambuli Awards, One Asia Creative Awards, Marketing Excellence Awards, Panata Awards, Kidlat Awards, and Araw Values Awards, among many others.

McDonald’s also organizes invitational community rides called Tour de McDo, bringing both newbie and seasoned bikers together for a relaxed ride across scenic spots and other tourist attractions.

Several Tour de McDo legs have been organized in various locations since 2023, attracting over 2,000 bikers and supporters in community rides held in Nuvali Laguna, Pampanga, Intramuros, Tagaytay City, and Iloilo. In 2025, three Tour de McDo events were organized — the kickoff activity in Baguio City last April 27, the World Bicycle Month celebration on Ayala Avenue in Makati City last June 29, and most recently, the National Bike Day celebration held in Rizal last November 23.

Close to 100 bikers joined a fun 25-km ride around the picturesque hills surrounding Antipolo City. This leg of Tour De McDo started and culminated at the McDonald’s Mambugan store, which is one of the nine Green and Good flagship stores in the country. Each Green and Good store features environment-friendly innovations, which include the use of solar panels and solar-powered lampposts, rainwater harvesting tank, power-saving motion sensors and LED lights, and energy-efficient air-conditioning systems. And of course, these flagship stores have the Bike and Dine features that cyclists have come to love.

Aside from McDonald’s Mambugan, the eight other Green and Good flagship stores are UN Del Pilar (Manila), Shaw Boulevard Wack-Wack (Mandaluyong), Delos Reyes (Tagaytay), Nuvali (Sta. Rosa, Laguna), Sta. Monica Commonwealth (Quezon City), Ayala Crescendo (Tarlac), Davao Global Township (Davao City), and Il Corso Cebu (Cebu City).

Tour de McDo Rizal brought cyclists around Antipolo City, showcasing breathtaking views of lush greenery, urban landscapes, and some of the city’s most famous landmarks. And even those unable to join the event can follow the route on their next ride–the map is available on the Strava app.

“McDonald’s has made great strides in our efforts to promote sustainable practices and innovations, and we are glad that our customers’ passion for caring for the environment while enjoying an active lifestyle has met its match in Tour De McDo (Ride the Arches),” said Denise Barrameda, McDonald’s Corporate Communications Senior Manager. “We are committed to growing Ride the Arches into a bigger, wider, and more inclusive movement, as we open more Green and Good stores nationwide and strengthen our advocacy for sustainability, health, and community well-being.”

Aside from the scenic community ride, participants of all legs of Tour de McDo were treated to post-ride recovery meals. In the Tour de McDo Rizal leg, cyclists were treated to a post-ride filling meal of 1-pc. Golden Chicken Curry with Egg, Rice Small Orange Juice, and received an exclusive Green and Good T-Shirt. The event also featured a special raffle, where lucky winners received McDonald’s Gift Certificates and Be Our Guest cards.

In addition, participants also came together at the booth supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), where cute pairs of RMHC socks were sold, with all proceeds going to Ronald McDonald Bahay Bulilit Learning Centers — providing young children with a safe space to learn and play, and making every purchase a meaningful contribution to their growth and education.
