IABC Philippines names 2013 CEO Excel Awardees

MANILA, JULY 26, 2013 – International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines honored 13 of the country’s finest leaders at the CEO Excel Awards 2013 last night at the Intercontinental Hotel, Makati City.

Since 2005, the CEO Excel Award is given annually by IABC Philippines to senior executives who have effectively used communication strategies and tools to advance the goals of their organizations.

"Each year we welcome to the fold of communication excellence, top leaders who use communication exceptionally as an integral part of their business strategy to achieve and surpass their organizational goals," said IABC Philippines chairman Elpi O. Cuna.

With the theme ‘Power of Drums’, which is tantamount to the leadership skills these senior executives possess, the awarding was divided into three sets, each set with different kinds of drum to describe the awardees.

For the first part, bass drums were used symbolizing discipline, precision and integrity. Awardees for the first set were: Victoria G. Belo, MD, Peter Cowan, Samson "Samie" C. Lim and Jose T. Pardo.

The second set of awards was named bongo drums, which signifies leadership, guidance and organization. Lilia B. de Lima, Donald Patrick L. Lim, Maria A. Ressa and Ma. Lourdes "Malou" N. Santos was given the bongos.

The last set of awards is the snare drums. Symbolizing strength and determination, the recognitions were given to Alfredo S. Panlilio, Pacita "Chit" U. Juan, Jose Victor P. Paterno and Erramon L. Aboitiz.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas governor and chairman of the monetary board Amando M. Tetangco Jr. is the recipient of the 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award because of his extra ordinary ability to communicate policy actions, gaining understanding and support from BSP stakeholders. He is also known for the Reaching out to Move and Serve program where he regularly visits BSP branches across the country.

The night was also a celebration for the 30th anniversary and victory of IABC Philippines. In June, IABC Philippines received two distinctions during the World Conference in New York: the first Filipino and only Asian to receive the IABC Fellow Award, the highest individual honor for communicators; and the first Filipina and only Asian to be named director of the International Executive Board (IEB) and trustee of the IABC Foundation.

"With thsese mandates, we at IABC Philippines will continue to reach out and engage communicators and leaders and advocate for the exemplary practice of communication for our organizations, our nation and our profession worldwide," remarked Ritzi Villarico Ronquillo, IABC Philippines president, International Executive Board director and IABC Foundation trustee.
