Clear Channels, World Stage Productions usher in new era for the hologram

MANILA, MARCH 27, 2013 – Holograms, which first appeared in The Carpathian Castle, a novel by Jules Verne released in 1863, have always been an object of fascination, gaining a permanent place in pop culture since The Jetsons in the early 1960s until the present. But after last year’s phenomenal resurrection of rapper Tupac, who performed in Coachella with old friend and fellow rapper Snoop Dogg, the whole world knew that the hologram has left the confines of entertainment and has officially arrived in the real world.

The Philippines can now join in the hologram craze as Clear Channels and World Stage Productions bring this awe-inspiring technology on the ground, giving events organizers and advertisers limitless possibilities.

The large-scale holographic stage, displayed in a darkened room with carefully directed lighting, consists of two-dimensional surfaces that show absolutely precise, three-dimension images of real objects. So far, the extent of 3-D executions has been limited to that which needs special glasses or looking at a display at a certain distance. The hologram experience requires neither.

If you look at these holograms from different angles, objects can be seen from different perspectives, just like one would if looking at a real object.

According to World Stage Productions founder Erwin Genuino, the holographic stage can be used for various events, from fashion shows to beauty pageants, from car shows to product launches. With the advent of the holographic stage, events execution has just entered a new era.

A word of warning: Although holographic presentations may run the risk of becoming cheesy, when done right, just like Tupac’s Coachella appearance, this technology can be staggeringly impressive.

World Stage Productions and Clear Channels were also behind the augmented reality Christmas display in The Fort, Bonifacio Global City last December, which helped spread the Christmas spirit amidst the shopping chaos.
