Events: Kumu celebrates 4th birthday at Samsung Hall with star-studded concert in September

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Seeing any business through a pandemic is a feat in and of itself, but to have it thrive and become an avenue for connection at a time when no one knows what’s going to happen next? Not everyone can say that. Social media platform Kumu began in 2018 as a way to connect Filipinos from around the world and help them find their common ground much like a digital tambayan, but grew into something much larger than any of the founders could have anticipated.

Now in its fourth year, the social entertainment app that took millions of smartphones, tablets, and other devices by storm is set to mark the occasion with a bang — only fitting, after over two years of establishing and growing communities almost solely via the internet. On September 02 at the Samsung Hall in SM Aura Premier, in partnership with Globe and Sunsilk, Kumu will be gathering 1,000 guests, mostly made up of the most highly engaged users and streamers, along with some serious talents that got their start or reached new heights through the app.

Super groups BINI, BGYO, VXON, KAIA, CALISTA, and Press Hit Play are just some of the names attendees can expect to grace the stage, as well as solo acts like FANA, Anton Diva, Kimpoy Feliciano, Vinz Tiu, Christian Bahaya, Alyssa Quijano, JM Bales, and Samantha Bernardo. There will also be a special performance of the Top Class winners, from the recently concluded reality competition hosted by Catriona Gray

“This is obviously really exciting for us as a company, but really, it’s a celebration of what we’ve all built together,” said James Rumohr, Co-founder and Chief of Staff of Kumu. “And I really mean all of us, from Roland [Ros, our CEO] to whoever has just downloaded the app as we speak. Four years isn’t a long time for something to grow the way this has, but here we are. And we owe it to the community as much as we do to the team because they’re the ones putting themselves out there and creating their tribes, building these bridges, showing us who they are. Our job is to make it better, safer all the time, but there’s no point without the Kumu-nity. So this is their celebration as much as it is ours.”

Kumu’s media partners for this event are Spot.ph, Candy Magazine, Pep.ph, When in Manila and Geektalk PH. Special thanks to our wardrobe sponsors Dave Ocampo, Designers Circle Philippines, and Mabuhay PH.

Tickets are available now over at SM Tickets. Kumu is available for download via the App Store and Google Play.
