JP Cuison opens solo exhibit ‘Misplaced’ on October 9

As if out to prove that working in the advertising industry does not mean losing time for other creative pursuits, JP Cuison is set to open his solo exhibit "Misplaced" on October 9.

"Misplaced" is a silk-screen print exhibit featuring characters who are out of their natural habitat. "Expect nila yung mga characters such as Dracula, Spongebob, Homer, Lion-O and Mr. Peanut na maliligaw somewhere na hindi niya talaga habitat," Cuison said.

According to Cuison, there are five designs of limited edition posters, with only 55 pieces worldwide. He shared that the exhibit was actually the precursor idea to his last show, "Warhol vs. Lichtenstein."

Cuison, who is an Associate Creative Director at Publicis JimenezBasic, said the exhibit is, in a way, a fulfillment of a common childhood fantasy. "When we were kids, we’d ask each other ‘Who would win, Mickey Mouse or Bugs Bunny?’ And because someone else owned them, I couldn’t do it. Now, I’ll do it," Cuison said in Filipino.

In the past, Cuison talked about his influences and dream projects as a gig poster artist on adoboLIVE! "I just want to do something on my own. Meaning no boss, I’m in control," Cuison said.

The prolific artist was also previously featured on adobo magazine along with JWT’s Apol Sta. Maria as the Advertising Band of the Philippines. The newly-launched band has two original song compositions inspired by their personal experiences as well as the collective thoughts of colleagues and friends in the industry.

"Misplaced" opens on October 9 at The Pocket Universe Art Collective, 2nd Floor, SaGuijo Cafe Bar in San Antonio Village, Makati.
