MANILA, PHILIPPINES – East meets West design: Is the Philippines leading the way?
As Milan Fashion Week draws to a close, the city vibrates with the energy of fashion lovers and industry insiders celebrating the artistic prowess and innovation that define Italy’s fashion landscape. This annual event, known for its extravagant displays and trendsetting designers, not only highlights established brands but also paves the way for emerging talents to showcase their creativity.
Meanwhile, the Philippines is making significant strides to claim its place on the global design map often referred to as the “Milan of Asia,” with a breed of designers and creators set to showcase at the upcoming Philippine International Furniture Show (PIFS). On March 6 to 8, 2025, at the SMX Convention Center in Manila, this year’s show revolves around the theme “Philippines: An Archipelago of Design.” With its rich cultural heritage and burgeoning furniture industry, the Philippines is ready to captivate international audiences and buyers alike.
PIFS will spotlight over 3,000 high-quality items, including custom-made furniture, elegant lighting solutions, and sophisticated home décor from a diverse range of the country’s unique textures and materials. In conjunction with PIFS, the Interior & Design Manila (IDM) Show will elevate the country’s design conversation, featuring the finest Filipino interior designers, including architects who have made a name for themselves in Europe. The overarching theme of IDM, “NEUE WAVES,” emphasizes innovative exhibits and activities to encourage new dialogues among contemporary design creators in the Philippines.

- A thought-provoking art installation by Leeroy New
- IDr. Joy Merryl Ngo will curate a special exhibit featuring up-and-coming designers.
- Ar. Anton Mendoza will unveil a design-forward pavilion that exemplifies architectural brilliance for the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers (PIID).
- IDr. Tessa Alindogan and IDr. Cyndi Fernandez-Beltran will create an exclusive collaborative setting that encapsulates the essence of modern Filipino design.
- IDrs. Ivy and Cynthia Almario will craft a sophisticated Buyer’s Lounge space reflective of Filipino interior elegance.
Beyond the exhibition, PIFS will also host engaging activities, including a wood carving masterclass organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ICCPI). Moreover, an insightful design talk organized by the Philippine Institute of Interior Designers titled “Designing the Archipelago: A Journey Through Philippine Regional Styles” will delve into the diverse influences shaping interior aesthetics across the islands, celebrating the country’s rich cultural heritage and diversity.
