Globe, Ayala Land, BPI win Spectrum awards, ASAP honors Afif Khodr

After the speakers have done their bit, and over the drunken haze and biting binge of the parties, Spectrum, the trade exhibit, had its own meaningful ceremony on Saturday November 22.

Expected to be the biggest and grandest trade exhibit ever, Spectrum did not fail its promise.  Presenting more than color, Spectrum introduced some of the latest gadgetry and gimmicks so much part-and-parcel of the business.  Three-dimension technology, LED visuals, eco-friendly printing, clean air-bio fuels, you name it, Spectrum had it.  Never before has the trade exhibit featured a more multi-dimensional treat.

To reward the sponsors and exhibitors that went beyond boundaries to produce such an elaborate show, Spectrum awarded its most colorful entries.

Though the past trade exhibits were dominated by the Philippine Star, this year saw the news daily up against strong competition.

All red and massive, the village that the Ayala Group of Companies developed inside the trade exhibit was Spectrum’s eye-catcher.  Globe-ALI-BPI bagged awards as Best in Theme and Best Booth Design.

To cap the Spectrum events, the Advertising Suppliers Association of the Philippines (ASAP) held a solemn celebration of the life and times of one of its devoted leaders, Khalil Afif Khodr, who passed away on December 14, 2008

“We celebrate a man whose legacy is known for “Technology Beyond Limits”, said Dodie Lucas, three-time ASAP president.  “Afif opened the opportunity for suppliers to break into the business.  Mr. “I’ll fix it” inspired us that “yes, it can be done” all the time,” Lucas added.

Led by Allen Velez, ASAP president and 21st PAC Venue and Trade Exhibit Chair awarded a posthumous Plaque of Appreciation to Afif Khodr “in recognition of (his) unconditional support to the industry, the champion of Philippine advertising.” The award was received by son Christian Khodr, and brother Kamil Khodr.
