Japan agencies dominate first round of ADFEST 2016 winners

PATTAYA – Out of the measly five Grande awards that the jury handed out for the first batch of winners of ADFEST 2016 on Friday, three was snatched by two Japanese agencies.

Hakuhodo Kettle Inc. started strong with two Grande awards under the Direct and Outdoor categories for their campaign ‘Shell we move?’ for Suumo, a real estate agency. The agency used an expected approach in showing how Suumo can provide better homes by first providing eco-friendly and sturdy shells to hermit crabs.

Meanwhile, Hakuhodo Inc. won the Grande Design Lotus for Hibiki Japanese Harmony, a portrayal of the beauty of whisky that is unique to Japan by using the Japanese ancient motif of Ryusei-mom on washi-paper.

For the Interactive Lotus category, Aussie agency, McCann Melbourne was awarded the Grand Lotus for ‘The Emotional Trailer,’ a campaign for the Melbourne International Film Festival. Instead of showing the usual movie trailers that we know, they showed how the viewer reacted to the film using a sensory-activated machine.

The Grande Mobile Lotus was snatched by Colenso BBDO for the app they created for Pedigree that called ‘Pedigree Found’. Through this app, owners can ask for help in finding their lost pets.

No Grande Lotus awards were given for the Press Lotus, Print Craft Lotus, and Film Craft Lotus.
