Singapore Media Festival launches with A Celebration of Asian Storytelling

SINGAPORE – The Singapore Media Festival, one of Asia’s leading international media events, kicked off with a stellar showing of industry heavyweights at its launch in Marina Bay Sands’ ArtScience Museum.

The 3rd edition of the festival looks forward to welcome some 20,000 thought-leaders and key players in the various aspects of media and content production community and members of the public from Singapore and around the world in the next 17 festival days. In addition to celebrating the best of Asian storytelling, the festival will create new content creation opportunities while also focusing on nurturing a new generation of Asian storytellers that is capable of telling compelling stories across various genres and platforms. A particular spotlight will also be placed on the rapid convergence of media and technology in propelling the industry forward in an increasingly digitised world.

In his opening address, Chief Executive of Singapore’s Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA), Mr. Gabriel Lim, reiterated the importance of such convergence for the industry and the local community, especially with the newly-minted IMDA. He said, ”IMDA brings the science of infocomm and the art of media together to create new opportunities and possibilities that allow us to build towards a future for Singapore.“

In line with this, SMF announced a partnership between IMDA with home-grown online video sharing platform, Viddsee, for a sustained channel dedicated to Singapore stories that highlight the diversity of Singapore’s culture and stories to a global audience. IMDA also announced a collaboration with Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) to develop and present 10 digital Public Service Broadcasting (PSB) programmes across different genres, to be rolled out through SPH’s Digital Content Network and social media channels.
