Y&R Philippines’ mobile app for Nokia secures finalist spot for One Show

THE PHILIPPINES, JANUARY 27, 2012: A mobile app for Nokia smartphones that not only looks but also works like a taxi meter secured a finalist spot for Y&R Philippines in the upcoming awards night of One Show Interactive on May 11.

The mobile application “Taxi Meter” is up against entries from Digital Kitchen, Abbot Mead Vickers BBDO, Forsman & Bodenfors, Grow Interactive, and R/GA in the Mobile category.

“The Nokia Store was suffering from lack of traffic, especially if compared with the patronage of iPhone’s App Store,” said Badong Abesamis, executive creative director of Y&R Philipppines. The solution, said Abesamis, was to populate the Nokia Store (www.store.ovi.com) with useful mobile applications that go beyond gaming and entertainment.

Taxi Meter uses GPS technology to help stop fraud by counterchecking the final fare indicated on the cab’s fare meter. Abesamis explains that using Taxi Meter is as simple as pressing the start and stop buttons on the app at the same time that the driver starts and stops his own meter. Taxi Meter is a free app and presently works on the following Nokia models: C5-03, C6 (OS: S60), E7, C601, C7, and N8 (OS: Symbian) using existing Philippine taxi fare rates.

One Show will be held on May 7–13 in New York City, during Creative Week.
