The One Club Creative Week 2018: Educator Summit to Focus on Engaging Millennials

NEW YORK – The annual One Club Creativity’s Educator Summit will kick off on May 7, 1:00PM GMT (1:00AM Manila time). The summit aims to address current issues and expand resources for those teaching and/or working in the academic arena. Through panel discussions and workshops educators gain practical knowledge and strategies for empowering young creative minds and preparing students for successful careers.

This year’s theme will focus on engaging current millennials and there will be an insightful panel talk followed by breakout sessions and concluding group discussion.

1:15PM-2:45PM – A panel discussion and workshop on how to engage the current student

Today’s students have grown up in an electronics-filled and increasingly online and social-network world and this has affected their classroom learning and ability to think critically and creatively. To tackle this issue, a panel of experts studying the mindset of the millennials will discuss with agency professionals and teachers how to develop the necessary tools and teaching methods for reengaging students in the process of learning. Moderated by Dan Balser, Program Director of The Creative Circus, this panel and the corresponding workshops aim to enrich any teacher’s toolbox. 

2:55PM-3:55PM – It’s Fun To Do The Impossible

There’s been an industry wide shift in talent from agencies to client side. Marketers are taking a lot of their business in house and creatives are following. Jean Batthany, VP, Global Creative at Yellow Shoes, internal agency for Walt Disney Parks + Resorts, will share her insights on what brands like Disney are looking for when recruiting young diverse talent. 

4:00PM-4:50PM – Want Your Student To Get Hired.. Here Is What You Need To Know! 

Britney Krupa, Director of Talent at Mother will discuss her experience recruiting young creative talent. What she and her team look for in portfolios, resumes, and interviews.

5:00PM-6:00PM – A Discussion On Diversity: How Can We Expand Our Pool Of Young Creative Talent?

It has been an ongoing challenge to diversify the pool of advertising and design student. However, several schools are making a strong effort to broaden their student body and revamp their curriculum. By addressing the cultural interests of and igniting the spark in these young creatives, a change is happening. Al Benoit, Director of Education Partnerships for the 4A’s along with professors from Howard University will discuss their approach and recruiting strategies for building a more inclusive educational program.
