Print Congress showcases power of print

 PHILIPPINES, AUGUST 6 – Print media owners will make a case for print, with speakers and data to show that the predicted demise of the medium is not only premature but isn’t grounded in reality.

The 2nd Philippine Print Media Congress will showcase proactive initiatives the industry can take o ensure its relevance and competitiveness as a mainstream media platform even as digital media consumption continues to rise.
The August 9-10 congress will make print’s case through data and a redefinition of print’s role amid  changes to the media environment. 
 
The current state of print media
Synovate’s managing director Carole Ann Sarthou and Nielsen managing director Stuart Jamieson will provide data and insights on the current status of the print media versus TV, radio, and internet/digital from the standpoint of advertising share, media consumption, revenues and other pertinent measures.
UPMG vice president and congress chairman Barbie Atienza noted:  “…the congress…will provide the actual current picture of where the print media industry stands today and where we ought to be. Hopefully, with these data, no matter how alarming they may be, will guide us on what we can do.” 
 
Digital vs Print Media
A panel of speakers from the advertising industry as well as the internet and mobile community will discuss the emergence of digital media and the ramifications for print. 
Jos Ortega, chairman and CEO of the newly-formed Havas Media Ortega, whose digital arm Media Contacts was awarded back-to-back Media agency of the year at the Araw Awards, will address the conference along with Manny Fernando, president of the Internet and Mobile Marketing Association of the Philippines (IMMAP) who is also president and CEO of Megamobile, the mobile development arm of the Inquirer group. Bunny Aguilar, who heads Mobile and Digital Marketing for Globe Telecoms, will also address the conference.
 
PrintCon Expo
The PrintCon Expo will be held alongside the congress to showcase products and services of brand marketers, suppliers and allied partners in the industry. There will be about 30 booths offering samples and special promo offers ranging from cars, credit cards consumer goods among others. 
 
 
Update: PrintCon is rescheduled to September 6-7, 2012 due to Manila’s heavy rains and floods.
