Formerly Jack City, Solar rebrands and launches channel as CT

MANILA – Solar Entertainment bids farewell to Jack City after three years to rename it as CT, which stands for City Television.

Officially on air last March 22, CT keeps some of the drama series and hollywood shows of its predecessor but now included comedy shows, talk shows and lifestyle programs in a bid to reach a more diverse audience.

Solar ditched the “Jack” branding to reach its supposed target audience of  young male and female urbanites between their early 20’s to 30’s. Solar Entertainment’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) Mitos Borromeo, said that its position didn’t come across very clearly mainly due to its association with Jack TV, its sister channel followed by a fairly male-dominated viewership.

“Ultimately, channels should be treated as brands to stand out and effectively reach desired audiences. And as brands, it should have its own personality that should connect with the people you want to be hooked,” Borromeo shared with Adobo.

Keeping true to its name, CT paid close attention to the consumption habits of its audience. Top shows will be aired not just during evening primetime but also in the morning in response to the growth of the BPO industry. And even if viewers are far from their TVs, CT is beaming live on Blink TV,  an online movie and TV show service from Omni Digital Media Ventures – the digital arm Solar Entertainment.

“Primetime in cable television is different from mainstream TV. In addition, a growing number of viewers now catchup with their shows online with their mobile devices.”

Solar also will also be introducing CT Square, a locally produced TV magazine show taking viewers to go-to places around the metro. Hosted by Carla Dunareanu, the 10-minute series will initially run with 13 episodes starting this May.

“CT Square helps establish a more personal connection with local audiences. A show that talks about real places that viewers can enjoy after their work hooks audiences… something different from canned shows,” Leah Eriguel, VP for Marketing at Solar Entertainment said.

Headlining CT’s new shows is The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, which airs live via satellite at 2pm and at primetime at 10pm. Other shows are Car Matchmaker, Best Bars in America, Person of Interest starring Jim Caviezel, The Following starring Kevin Bacon, Bones, and Elementary.

Like Jack CIty, CT is airing on Cignal channel 22, Sky Cable channel 138, Destiny Cable channel 138, and Cable Link channel 40.
