MONDO is a band led by Mondo Castro and LC De Leon, with Rizza Arales on bass and Marco Raquiza on drums. Together, they shape an alternative-rock sound rooted in emotionally direct songwriting, atmospheric guitars, melodic hooks, and the urgency of a band built for the stage.

At the center is a simple creative instinct: make songs that feel lived-in. MONDO moves naturally between Filipino and English, treating both languages as part of the same emotional landscape rather than separate identities.

The result is a band whose songs can be intimate without becoming quiet, melodic without losing their edge, and vulnerable without pretending that every wound has an easy answer.

THE RECORD

SIX SONGS. ONE EMOTIONAL WORLD.

MONDO’s new EP is a collection of songs about distance, uncertainty, loss, and the stubborn decision to keep going anyway.

Moving between Filipino and English, the record finds its characters in different versions of the same place: relationships slowly coming apart, people searching for direction, memories that refuse to disappear, and moments when simply staying becomes an act of hope.

There are no easy resolutions here. Instead, the songs live in the space between holding on and letting go.

Musically, the EP carries MONDO’s alternative-rock identity through emotionally direct songwriting, atmospheric guitars, melodic hooks, and the urgency of a band built around live performance. The Filipino and English songs aren’t separate sides of MONDO; they belong to the same emotional world.

At its heart, this is a record about trying to find light without denying the darkness.

TRACK NOTES / 01–03

01 — BASAGIN ANG DILIM

“Basagin Ang Dilim” is about the things we carry but cannot say. The song begins in emotional paralysis: directionless, unmoving, slowly sinking. Memories become sharp, words remain suspended in the air, and beneath the silence is a scream nobody seems able to hear.

But the title introduces resistance. Basagin ang dilim — break the darkness. Rather than presenting hope as something easy or sentimental, the song treats it as an act of defiance.

Sometimes the first step out of darkness isn’t finding the light. It’s refusing to let the darkness remain unbroken.

CORE THEME: Silence, isolation, and the determination to break through.

02 — KUNG KILALA

“Kung Kilala” asks one of the most painful questions inside a relationship: How can someone know you so well and still become a stranger? The song follows two people who remain physically together while becoming increasingly emotionally distant. Conversations become shorter. Reassurances stop feeling convincing. Familiar gestures disappear.

The repeated question — Kung kilala mo na ako, bakit parang nagbabago? — captures the contradiction at the center of the song: intimacy does not always guarantee connection. It isn’t really a song about a dramatic breakup. It’s about the slow realization that love can still exist while two people are drifting apart.

CORE THEME: Emotional distance inside intimacy.

03 — BREATHE IN THE DARK

“Breathe In The Dark” is about trying to find your way when the life you expected no longer resembles the life you’re living. The song questions the maps we’re handed — who we’re supposed to become, where we’re supposed to go, and what a successful life is supposed to look like. But those coordinates keep shifting, leaving us somewhere between the person we were and the person we’re becoming.

Its central question — Are we learning how to breathe in the dark, or just learning how to fake the spark? — is deliberately unresolved. The song ultimately finds hope not in having everything figured out, but in surviving uncertainty long enough to discover what comes next.

Sometimes we aren’t broken. Sometimes we’re simply in the middle of becoming.

CORE THEME: Identity, uncertainty, resilience, and becoming.

04 — I ALWAYS END UP LOSING YOU

“I Always End Up Losing You” is a love song haunted by repetition. Its narrator recognizes the feeling immediately: another familiar day, another echo, another attempt to trace a path back to someone who continues to disappear.

Yet the person being lost is also the person who brings color back into the narrator’s world. That contradiction gives the song its emotional center. This isn’t simply heartbreak. It’s the experience of loving someone who makes life feel more alive while knowing that, somehow, you keep ending up without them.

Even then, the narrator remains willing to turn around, carry what they can, and try again. It is a song about the strange persistence of love after experience has already taught you how the story might end.

CORE THEME: Love, recurring loss, memory, and devotion.

05 — STAY A LITTLE LONGER

“Stay A Little Longer” captures the desire to stop time when everything outside the moment feels uncertain. Two imperfect people don’t know exactly where they’re going. They don’t promise forever. They simply find something real in each other while the world around them seems to be falling apart.

That makes the request at the center of the song remarkably simple: Stay. Don’t let the feeling disappear yet. Don’t let the night end yet.

Where some of the EP’s other songs deal with people becoming distant, “Stay A Little Longer” catches the moment before that distance arrives — the instinct to hold onto something good precisely because we know how temporary good things can be.

CORE THEME: Connection, impermanence, and choosing the present.

06 — LARGA

“Larga” is about loving someone enough to let them move forward. Set against images of a sleeping world, changing winds, ghosts, tears, prayer, and waiting, the song carries the sadness of separation without turning that sadness into bitterness.

The word larga suggests departure and movement — a journey beginning even when someone else must remain behind. Its emotional power comes from that tension. There is grief in watching someone go, but there is also hope in believing their journey must continue.

“Larga” closes the emotional circle of the EP: after songs about breaking darkness, losing connection, searching for direction, losing someone repeatedly, and asking someone to stay, this song finally confronts the possibility that sometimes love means allowing someone to go.

CORE THEME: Departure, sacrifice, hope, and letting go.
