This event is an effort of Bates 141 and Efren Peñaflorida, Jr.’s Tulakabataan, a non-profit organization dedicated to “pushing for change” through education, specifically by inviting the youth to adapt the model of the “kariton classroom” (pushcart classroom) in their own schools and communities.
Recently, Peñaflorida was named one of the Top 10 CNN Heroes of 2009 and is vying for the CNN Hero of the Year title to be awarded this November.
Joey Ong, executive creative director of Bates 141, explains, “It’s a fundraiser that really focuses on the children affected by the typhoons, many got displaced, shocked and traumatized. Especially now, schools are put on hold. With “tulakabataan”, we are helping out not by just giving relief goods but using the kariton as a vehicle to continue the vision of Efren.”
