Film: Cinemalaya 2020 to Hold Free Screenings of Selected Films

MANILA, Philippines–Cinemalaya is holding free screenings of selected feature films including award-winning short films from across the Asia in Visions of Asia and Allied Festival sections.

Through partnerships with Eiga Sai Japan Film Festival, EuroPelikula, and Iran Film Festival, the festival will feature the following films: MY LITTLE GOAT by director Misato Tomoki; A JAPANESE BOY WHO DRAWS by director Kawajiri Masanao; A SUNNY DAY by director Faouzi Bensaidi; HUNGRY SEAGULL by director Leon Wang; OLMO by director Silvio Soldini; TUA INGUGU by director Daniela Thomas; and I AM AMERICAN by director Omid Mirzaei. Gawad Alternatibo Para sa Pelikula at Video is also screening all its short film finalists in Animation, Experimental, Documentary, Short Feature, Crosscurrents, and Emergent Media (Video Games) for free .

There will also be Gawad Special Screenings, featuring films from the European Union and Embassy of Iran under the CCP Arthouse Cinema section, shorts from the School of Slow Media coupled with a human-centered storytelling workshop, the QuaranTimes Chronicles shorts and docu essays from alternative media organizations, and the winning shorts from DepEd’s National Festival of Talents-Sineliksik Competitions.

Award-winning playwright Ricky Lee will have a class reunion with the alumni of his writing workshop, which started in 1982. Cinemalaya will host the grand reunion on August 8, at 1pm. It will be streamed online via the Cinemalaya and CCP Facebook pages and KUMU.

Also not to be missed are the sessions of Cinemalaya Campus, free live streaming on the Cinemalaya and CCP Facebook pages and KUMU from August 10 to August 14. You can also watch the Cinemalaya Campus Short Shorts Winners on August 14; it will be screened within the Cinemalaya Campus session. Know who will take home the plum awards in the Cinemalaya Awards program on August 12, 2pm.
