More and MORES: the Congress concludes

The 9th National Research Congress, by the Marketing and Opinion Research Society of the Philippines, recently held its 30th anniversary at the Hotel Stotsenberg, Clark Freeport.  Attended by 250 delegates from the country’s top research companies, media and a few advertising agencies, as well as other members of the private sector.

The country’s best research practitioners were on-hand with tested methodologies, first hand fieldwork techniques, and emerging trends and requisite research tools for the 21st century.  President of The Nielsen Co. Asia Pacific, our very own Bienvenido Niles, Jr. topped everyone in clarity and directness.  To keep up with the global demand for real-time reliable information, the Congress was packed with presentations on the online phenomenon. From Philippine Survey and Research Center-Research Institute, Emil Avenido and Arman Mercado, Associate Research Directors of PSRC-RI showed Juan Dela Cruz also as John and Jhun-Jhun, which provided quite a few laughs.  Respected stalwarts of the trade, AE Research Consultant Alexander Damaso Jr., as well as MORES icon Mercedes Abad, delivered their presentations with their own flair.

One of the major highlights was Tracking the Shopper.  TNS Regional Director Arnaud Frade showed a panorama of the shopper’s psyche, while Nielsen Director Cristina Mungcal put the spotlight on Juan Dela Cruz.  A surprise hit with the Q&A, the Hon. Diwa C. Guinigundo, Central Bank Deputy Governor, discussed prospects for the Philippine economy in a jargon-filled presentation worthy of the International Monetary Fund.
