ADFEST update: Monday reports

MARCH 14, 2011 – Although the crowds have not yet descended on Mövenpick Resort and Spa in Phuket, Thailand, the venue for this year’s ADFEST, the juries and Young Lotus teams kept busy today.

Saatchi & Saatchi Manila ECD Andrew Petch, who is in the Print Craft and Design jury sent adobo an update early in the evening: “We’ve managed to get through over half of the entries and shortlisted the gems, but we’ve got the other half to go tomorrow, before we get into the medal rounds. There is some very fresh design work from Japan today–they really do think differently in their approach, which I love. As far as the new venue here, I must say I don’t miss Pattaya. [Phuket is a] very beautiful place indeed!"

The Philippine team for Young Lotus spent the day listening to TBWA’s ad gurus talk about non-advertising topics. "John Merrifield is a certified badass. I want to be like him when I grow up," said Patrick Miciano of Bates 141 Manila. "Day One was frickin awesome! I’m hella inspired!" said Mark Peckson of Saatchi & Saatchi Manila. Team Tamaraw will be briefed with the other Young Lotus teams tomorrow at noon and will have 24 hours to submit their film work. We wish them good luck.

“Our press and outdoor jury is the last to finish having got through hundreds of entries,” tweeted BBDO Guerrero Chair and CCO David Guerrero late tonight. “We lost count sometime after lunch.” The long hours of jury duty must be taxing, but if what we hear about the excellent food is true, then there is much to look forward to tomorrow. We’ll keep you posted then.
