Yahoo takes Celebrity Awards 2014 on the road

MANILA – Yahoo Philippines is taking its Yahoo Celebrity Awards 2014 on the road, allowing fans to interact with nominees.

For the very first time, the Yahoo-On-the-Road bus will visit schools along with nominees for categories like Band of the Year and Emerging Band. Fans will not only be able to interact with the nominees, but also experience mobile apps, enjoy the Photo Booth, and request songs that the nominated bands will perform at the Awards Night on July 18.

Kate Delos Reyes, Country Manager and Country Editor of Yahoo Phlippines, said that the Awards honor not just the Pinoy stars but also the fans themselves. “We put the fans front and center because the fuel the engine of the entertainment industry,” she explained during the launch on June 4.

Yahoo on the Road will make its third and last stop at the Far Eastern University campus in Sampaloc, Manila. Yahoo’s Senior Director and Head of Marketing for India and Southeast Asia, Nitin Mathur will be at the event.

Now in its fourth year, what was formerly called OMG! Awards has been renamed to “better reflect what the Awards stand for,” according to Nitin Mathur, Senior Director for Marketing. Regardless of the name change, he added that they are confident in the continued support of fans.

The poll-based awards program allows fans to vote for their favorite celebrities and personalities who have been widely searched on the Yahoo Philippines site in the previous year.

Aside from the change in name, the Awards has added ten more categories to its lineup – namely, Celebrity Couple, Celebrity Family, Male and Female Hothletes, Band of the Year, Male and Female ‘Kontrabida’, Emerging Band, Song of the Year and Social Media Star. There are a total of 140 nominees across the 28 categories.

An award was made especially for members of the media, and appropriately called the Media Magnet award. Marian Rivera, who was present in the launch along with other celebrities, was awarded this year’s Media Magnet. She is also a nominee for Actress of the Year and a nominee with Dingdong Dantes for Celebrity Couple.

Voting closes on July 12, while the Yahoo Celebrity Awards will be held at Mall of Asia Arena on July 18. Fans may get tickets for free at SM Tickets.
