Twitter hires Edelman for PR

GLOBAL – SEPTEMBER 2011: Micro-blogging site Twitter has recently appointed PR giant Edelman to help boost usage from its 100 million members, as well as to educate consumers about the full value and potential of the social network.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo said that while their member count has increased up to 82% this January, only 60% tweet actively; the remaining 40% either have not tweeted for the past six months or are “lurkers” that merely follow others and/or have not tweeted at all.

According to the Holmes Report, Edelman is expected to handle media relations and consumer-focused projects. The partnership is also said to add fuel to Twitter’s more aggressive communication strategy and help win the fight for more consumer time against sites such as Google and Facebook.
