MANILA, JUNE 5, 2013 – Yahoo! Philippines launched the Yahoo! OMG! Awards 2013 last night at URBN Bar and Kitchen in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. This year’s event, the third iteration of the popular awards, boasts the slogan "Stars rock but fans rule", and is co-presented by McCafe.
The OMG! Awards aims to honor the country’s leading celebrities and stars in the fields of music, film TV and radio, as well as their fans. This year, fans can vote for any of 106 nominees across 22 categories, including Actor of the Year, Actress of the Year, Celebrity of the Year and so on; the voting period is ongoing and will end on July 12. Would-be voters can have a look at the list of nominees and cast their votes on OMG!, the Yahoo! news and entertainment site. They can also vote via SMS, by sending OMG HELP to 2910 regardless of network.
The winners will be awarded on July 19 at an evening ceremony at the Mall of Asia Arena. Those interested to attend can get tickets at SM Ticket outlets.
New country manager and Yahoo! Philippines country editor Kate Delos Reyes, who takes over from Arlene Amarante after the latter assumed her regional post, said that the previous two OMG! Awards were well-received, and said that that showed that Yahoo! is netizens’ destination of choice for daily news and entertainment. New deputy country sales director Mike Constantino added that advertiser interest in OMG! was high, showing that Yahoo! successfully links brands and audiences.
